It depends on your exercise objective and how your body or you response to morning exercise. If you can afford not to eat and still give your best to lose fat (while may lose a little muscle), then skip breakfast. Especially when you do not have much time (ie. going to work after that) as you need to wait for the food to digest a bit before starting workout if you take breakfast (especially when doing it vigorously). In fact, workout without breakfast is effective in burning fat.
However, if you feel lethargic in the morning and can’t seems to muster enough energy to workout, then do take something. Carbo or no carbo, it’s ok as nowadays most breakfast items (even protein rich food like eggs) have them. Keyword is ‘control’. Just eat enough for you to have energy for exercise. Moreover, it’s not advisable to exercise on a full stomach, right?
Lastly, you know yourself best. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not one or two days, not one or two months, not even few years. IT’S FOR A LIFETIME. Choose a way that you are motivated to CONTINUE maintaining it for the rest of your life wherever you are, whatever you do. This means too, letting yourself to enjoy your life to the fullest by eating whatever you want (if you enjoy food like me) once in a while and/or give yourself a treat (ie. movies, trips etc.) after a hard workout or you achieved your exercise milestone. Still, the keyword is CONTROL as you are in control of your lifestyle, not the other way around.
