Was at phuket for V-Day and GXFC holidays…..here my report :D
Getting there:
Only an hour plus flight and with AirAsia a round trip ended up costing me RM300 (inclusive taxes etc). Not bad la. Don’t bother driving there you’ll be wasting your time and nerves hahahah
Accommodations:
Jan to April is high season so finding “decent” place to stay can be a little tedious. I’d recommend making your booking online….here’s some place to start looking
www.airasia.com – good for package deals
www.latestays.com – great for late deals
I ended up staying 3 nights of Sunset Beach Resort – Patong Beach and another night @ Surin Beach. Costs about RM300/night la.
Where to Go and what to do?
Definitely Patong Beach la kot….its the busiest and main tourist attraction. My idea of a vacation is all about doing absolutely nothing :D so its the beach and ocean for me. Here’s what I did (and maybe you should do when you’re in Phuket)
- take a day trip to smaller islands…I went to Raya Island
- rent a motorbike to get around (costs about RM30 per day)
- tuk tuk pun bole la
- patong beach is aight but over-commercialized
- Surin beach is just about 15 minutes from Patong and more private
- head to Bang La road at night……its Patong main night scene. Its fun even if its just for cuci mata :D
- watersports…can be quite costly during peak seasons
What to eat?
Lots of Seafood and obviously Thai food available. Gerai2 pun ada. Halal or not? You’d have to ask…if unsure, stick to seafood je la.
Costly tak?
Depends on your budget. If you’re on a really tight budget…hmmm then don’t bother la kot…it won’t be fun…you’re better off going somewhere else here in Malaysia and have more fun. Otherwise, Phuket suits most budgets.
Overall?
Great fun! A great place to have fun, chill and to snorkel. Bali is probably better if you are more into cultural visits, sight-seeing and surfing.

Hey bro!
I went to Phuket once. If it is your first time to Thailand, then you will love it. You’ll be experiencing a new country, culture etc.
But, Phuket is not the best that Thailand has to offer. Phuket is a lot like Bali. In fact, there are Mcdonalds everywhere, markets on every corner, dirty streets and beggars. But the beaches are alot nicer.
I’d also recommend going to Koh Samui and Koh Phang Nan. Do try and see if you can make it to Krabi (which is only a few horus drive from Phuket). It is the most beautiful beach/town I’ve ever seen. It literally took my breath away!
Don’t forget to stop off in Bangkok…this is a must! Great cheap shopping and you have to visit Patpong night market and the huge weekend market (Chatchutak?).
By the way, were you and Intan honeymoon-ing? Hehehe… :P
