Sports Industry Coalition: Exercise – The Impact to our Life and Health during this Pandemic.
We have been in lockdown one after another for the past 2 years. The situation is not getting any better as we see the number of cases moving up and down on daily basis. Malaysians are stuck at home without much physical outdoor activities and exercise as there are still restrictions in force. Gyms and sporting facilities are still closed until further notice.
Malaysians are not getting any healthier being locked up at home. To make matters worse, based on the National Health Morbidity Study released in August 2020, more than 50% of Malaysian adults are overweight or obese. The trend of obesity continues to rise year on year. This also affects the younger age group with almost 30% of the children aged 5 to 17 are overweight and obese. This poses another threat to the overstretched medical services since the start of the pandemic.
