Fame? Please lah.
What is fame? Depends on who you talk to. If I ask my sister (who’s not even 16), she would imagine dressed up in pretty little dresses..heading to the clubs where everyone knows (and adores her of course) her name. Well lil sis…don’t grow up too quick 🙂
“Adakah anda giler glamor?”
That’s a question I get asked a lot lately. Am I? No! Sure it’s nice to be known and recognized but I’d rather it be for something I accomplished and am given credibility for. But I definitely am not complaining…trust me the perks ain’t bad.
Trust me, fame is cheap. Nowadays any joe-schmo or mak minah can be a model, actress, etc. But let’s keep it real. Just because you graced a cover of a magazine doesn’t make you a superstar. I not big on those “macam bagus” people.
Humility is important.
For me, fame is just a kesan sampingan (side effect) of being good at what you do. It’s not your goal to be famous but it just so happens. Think of the people like Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Bill Clinton, Oprah, Dr. M, etc these are extremely famous people but, for sure, they are not giler glamour. They are passionate about their ambitions, dreams, and goals! People take notice but it doesn’t change who they are as individuals, their character remains.
Adakah glamor akan influence diri anda?
Well for that crave fame, most probably as they can now finally attune their lifestyle. For others that are comfortable with who they are, famous or not, it doesn’t change them a single bit.
I have great respect for people that achieve so fame through their accomplishments but retain their humility and respect for others. End of the day, people are people. We all have our imperfections. Personally, I don’t fancy fame. Glamor tu tak ke mana 🙂
The moral of the story is…our brother here (Kevin) will still be the same person as he is after his AF4 stint. 😀

fame will take you nowhere if you’re stupid. harsh…but that’s the reality.

Hi Kev. Good topic to discuss, indeed! Fame is actually very subjective. But to me, I can categorize it into 2 categories. One is the one that you earn, and another if of course, the one that you look for. For the first one, fame that you earn actually comes without you having to look for it. Normally this kind of fame comes when something we did gets recognition from the public. Depending on whom you are (artistes, politicians, etc), the kind of fame you get will actually and relatively last for as long as your work and accomplishment get recognized. This group of people is the one that we can say “tak giler glamor”. They are just being passionate in what they do, and comes what may, it will never change the person they are – not a single bit! The second group of people actually aims fame in their life just to get other people notice of their existence. It’s not what they do or contribute that matters to them, it’s them themselves. They just love being admired and recognized by other people. They tend to do things even though it’s silly in the eyes of others, as long as they get the attention. The more controversial it might get, the better he or she feels. But, unfortunately, this sort of fame is purely a negative one. It doesn’t help people to grow up. Instead it can be very destructive and disgraceful. In contrast to the first group, this one is the group of people who are crazy for fame. Can we call them weirdo?Taking you for example, I honestly believe the fame you are enjoying now is what you actually earn from what you have worked for. When public starts to recognize your contribution, talent or skills, they will talk about it. When they do, their word of mouth is powerful that it makes other people that have never heard about you want to know more about you. This is actually good for you and in fact, for the business that you are running now. I think if you are “giler glamor” you wouldn’t have waited till AF4 to be recognized, right? In fact, I believe you do not need AF4 to be a platform to be glamor if that’s what you aim for. So, don’t worry about what other people say negatively about you. You should know who you really are well enough, and in fact better than other people. All the best to you!p/s: of all we know, some people might think that we’re “giler glamor” for writing this blog. 🙂

Kev, agreed! Our artistes get paid very little. Only a few get very good paid such as Datuk Sharifah Aini, Siti Nurhaliza just to name a few. But believe it or not, some of those who get paid very little tend to be in my second group who looks for fame just to get people’s attention. But do they succeed in their career? I honestly doubt it. Gosh! If it’s true, isn’t that feeble?Have a good day!

Fame (even small one) sucks when people starts to throw assumptions without any proof / source. Fame sucks when the famed one couldn’t be themselves anymore. Fame sucks when people around starts to treat the famed one differently. Fame also sucks when others place a high expactation on the famed one. Basically, if you’re in my shoes, fame sucks, for now…

Eibneau – that’s right! But like it or not, that’s the price one must pay for being famous. Their private life has somehow become public’s interest. Every movement attracts others’ attention. Take Princess Diana for example. She lost her own privacy as result of being famous and glamorous. And though she has passed away, people are still keen to encroach her personal and private matters in the past. Do you think she rests in peace right now? Hmm..I believe, Kevin will also lose some (if not all) of his privacy as a result of this fame. But I also believe and hope that he knows how to handle this situation. Some people may lose perspective of whom they are, but I have faith that Kevin will still be the person he is, and not easily get influenced by an overwhelming attention from the public. Not only Kevin, but in fact, those who have a strong willpower will manage to go through any tests in life. All the best…

Kev, 10 hours of sleep over 3 days? That can easily “corrupt” your mind and make you feel wobbly/groggy. Make sure you get some sleep when you really have time for that. Plus, it’s not good to drive if you’re sleepy. You know that, right? Take care!
